After the the final go-ahead is given by the local authority now comes the hard work of getting of getting it built!

It is now a month since the Welsh Dragon Project was given planning permission and a massive media campaign is well underway to raise awareness of the project to a national and international audience. The Welsh Dragon is already attracting the attention of regional and national media. The momentum is certainly with project lead, Simon Wingett, who has seen numerous requests for interviews and filming opportunities flooding in the past 2 weeks.

We are delighted that the Welsh Dragon project has come to the attention of the BBC and a number of regional newspapers this past week, but the challenge remains to get the message out there to a wider audience and find a high profile Welsh celebrity to front our appeal.  A revealing documentary on the project is currently being filmed for the BBC,  which will focus on the day-to-day work behind The Welsh Dragon and its significance as a cultural symbol.

Mr Wingett is also busy sourcing the stones that will represent the eleven tales of the Mabinogion. The stone circle will be one of the most impressive sites in the UK as well as leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. Speaking about the Mabinogion stones, Mr Wingett said today that the stones will be part of a ‘unique cultural monument for the 21st Century”. The stones will be sourced from a quarry in Wales owned by the Welsh Slate Company.

With planning permission now granted, there is now nothing to stand in the way of the Dragon Sculpture being built, but the aim is to have it in place ready for the Olympics in 2012. If the sculpture is in place ready for the Olympics it will attract some vital additional tourism for Wales and allow the country to really share in the international buzz that the Olympics will create.

This is no small undertaking and will take a huge effort to raise funds via business in Wales and the general public through the One Pound Plus appeal. So please help us in anyway you can to raise awareness.

If you would like to get involved in a project that marks a bright future for Wales please join The Welsh Dragon on Twitter or Facebook today!
